RSC Finish - Baby Quilt from Romany Quilting

It's always exciting to have a finish.  Even a small one.  I've been making easy small blocks this year in RSC colours each month, for a small baby quilt.  It all started when I decided to use up some donated strips of white fabric  printed with tiny blue flowers.  There was just enough to cut 25 five inch squares from the strips, so that was what I worked with.   Each month I added two strips of the nominated colour, starting with blue.

I stitched a few easy blocks each month

Last month I got the top completed, pinned ...

Forecasting a Finish from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was another rainy day yesterday...good sewing weather. I had a lot on my day's to-do list, and so I didn't get as much done in the sewing room as I'd hoped. Still, it was a good day all around. The weather is forecast to be cloudy today, but I think the rain might have moved on. We're expecting a hot weekend ahead with record-breaking temperatures. Mike and I will be camping. I'll say more about that in a minute. For now, let's talk about sweet things.

Back to Hand Quilting from The Cozy Quilter

If you read my blog on a regular basis, you will know that I started hand quilting my pineapple log cabin quilt a while ago and then, I stopped.  This week, I brought it upstairs from my sewing room and spent a few hours working on it.  The gold block is quilted and I am almost finished quilting the orange block.  Next up, the red block.  Funny how projects don't get done if you don't work on them...  I have another quilt that is begging to be hand quilted in the wings so I want to get this ...

Progress on All Fronts from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Yesterday's sewing had me finishing up the assignment for two of my projects. My morning started with finishing Tiny Treasure #60. This one has stem stitch, satin stitch, straight stitch, and lazy daisy.

That completed the assignment for this go-round. (I've been working on these in groups of 12.) Here are the 60 Tiny Treasures I have so far.

There are just 12 more to finish, and then I'll be ready to sew them into a quilt. I have an idea for this, and I'm excited to get started on it.

Orange RSC Stitching, and South Island Memories from Romany Quilting

I'm running a bit late with my orange stitching, but this is now the last of it.  For someone who doesn't particularly like the colour orange, I think I did quite well.  It was time to have a dig into my bag of "bag bits" of fabric pieces, linings and cord to make drawstring bags for foster kids again.  And I had enough for seven  bags.  I found a rusty orange floral fat quarter with strips pinned together for the cord casings, and made two bags from that.  Then there were chickens clucking around, so they got made ...

Joyful June from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and welcome to June. Today is the 24th anniversary of the founding of the Three Cats Ranch. We moved into our home on June 1, 2002, bringing with us this crew for whom the place is named. If you've been reading a long time, you'll remember George and Gracie. You won't remember Krissy, the tortie bringing up the rear. She was a memorable kitty, and she lived to be 19. She lived with us longer than either of our boys.

And the best part about June...summer will be here before the month ...

Colour Challenge Flimsy Done from The Cozy Quilter

I had a little less than a yard of the sashing and border fabric to set my colour challenge blocks and crossed my fingers that there would be enough to add 2.5" sashing and a 3.5" border.  I cut the pieces out that I needed to do this and had just a few scraps left.  Phew!  I'm happy that there was enough!  Now, I just have to figure out the backing--this will be pieced using fabric from my stash.   I will use a solid for the binding--not sure which colour I will use yet.

I worked on ...

Secret Sewing Gifted from Romany Quilting

I've been working on two different lots of secret sewing recently, and I'm pleased to say that one lot has now been gifted.  You may remember that I like to donate to Grandparents Raising Grandchildren.  The co-ordinator, Fleur, is bringing up three grandchildren herself, one girl and two boys, and when I asked, she told me that the children didn't have their own quilts.  Oh dear, I thought, so I mentioned to her some months ago that I would like to make them one each.  Finally, I finished the last one, this was delayed with my South ...

A Little of Everything from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a busy day yesterday. Today will be busy too. We're getting in our grocery shopping for the week, and we have some other errands to run as well. We have seven stops to make…eight, if you count filling our gas tank. Oy. I’m tired just thinking about it. So let's just get right to it, shall we?

First...I'm happy to announce a finish! The Homestead quilt is finished. I had to enlist my quilt holder-upper to get a picture of it. It finishes at 63 x 80 inches ...

Sew & Tell - 5/25/26 from Melva Loves Scraps

Here we are nearing the end of the 5th month of year... the informal kick-off to the summer season.  Schools are wrapping up their year of education, and teachers and kids alike are looking forward to the time off.  Gardeners are busy with flowers and plants and some already harvesting some early produce.

I remember the times of having a (LARGE) home garden and the bounty that it produced.  Those times are long in the past since we moved to Colorado and the growing season is so short and overnight temps cool.  But I do have fond memories and am ...

Binding Ahead from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Another one bites the dust. I'm happy to say the quilting is finished for the Homestead quilt. When I sat down at the machine yesterday, just the outer border remained. As I've said before, I try to learn something from every quilt. From this one, I learned that choosing a dark color thread on light fabrics probably isn't a good idea. As I quilted some of the blocks for this quilt, I thought the dark blue thread overwhelmed the design of the quilt block. Originally, I had in mind to do something traditional ...

Cross Stitch, Crochet and Orange from The Cozy Quilter

I must admit that adding stitches to the sky in my current cross stitch project is not that exciting...I try to break it up by adding stitches to the bottom part of the picture too.  You can see from the picture that progress was made on both fronts this week. Someone asked about stitching on perforated paper--the paper is quite thick and I have not had any issues with it tearing.  I have had to unstitch in a couple of spots and did not have any issues.

My daughter has been working on her crochet in the evenings this ...

RSC - Just a Touch of Orange from Romany Quilting

Orange is the colour of the month for RSC stitching, not my favourite colour by any means.  I'm not too keen on bright red either, wonder what that says about me?  I'm still working on my baby quilt and found a scrap of yellow with orangey coloured flowers - just enough for a corner block.  I was looking for something more apricot, but nothing was to be found.

That will do

I laid the blocks out on my design bed, to see what else I needed.  Yes, there were a couple of spaces that needed filling, so I stitched ...

Slowing Down from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was nice to have a day at home yesterday after such a busy week. It was on the cool side outdoors, and that made it a good day to stay inside and sew.

My first priority was to get the binding sewn on the Merry, Merry Snowmen quilt. As you know, here at the Three Cats Ranch, a quilt cannot be considered complete until it has been fully inspected and appurroved by the Quilt Inspectorette-in-Chief. First, it must undergo the snuggleability test. Her expression had me a little worried, but she purrmitted me to continue ...
